What is an inexpensive homemade bug repellant?

Bug Begone!

The most inexpensive way I`ve found to keep bugs from devouring plant leaves is to make a solution of dish soap and water, which is sprayed on the leaves of the affected plant. The dish soap will literally make the leaves too slippery for the bugs to stay on!
