Tip of the Week

In order to enjoy a truly great harvest, preparation is essential. Get those planting beds well amended. When buying seeds or starts, don`t skimp on quality. Buy top quality seeds. With your starts, look for green healthy sets of leaves and no fruit. Seeing fruit on a start, indicates it has been in the pot too long and will be weak. For cucumbers and squash, buy F1 or VF1 hybrids, bred to be resistant to wilt and mosaic viruses. Once in, foliar feed them with fish emulsion or other good fertilizer, until they set fruit. Water in furrows alongside the rows, rather than overhead, which sets up mildew conditions.
Bury your tomato seedlings up to their first set of leaves. The fine hairy rootlings help grow a strong vigorous root system. These simple tips can help you have the best garden ever. Check out my other tips under vegetables and Hot Tips!
