Get A Jump Start On Spring With Coldframes

Anxious for spring but still have some cool frosty nights to deal with? Make or purchase some cold frames, use some black plastic to warm the ground and get planting. Once the ground is warmed, be sure to remove the black plastic. Don't forget to pick up some frost cover as well. Cold frames can be made out of wood, conduit or wire. They can be covered with old windows or 6 mil. plastic. Frost cover is used on top of the crops under the cold frame. Another way to hold heat is to fill pop bottles or milk jugs with water. During the day the water will warm up naturally and at night the water will release heat. With a bit of planning it is possible to get a jump start on spring and have the first fresh tomatoes on the block.
