July 9, 2010, Newsletter Issue #452: Indoor Herb Garden

Tip of the Week

Even if you live in an apartment, there is no reason why you cannot grow fresh herbs.

The AeroGarden makes it possible to grow fresh herbs right on a table or countertop. All you need is a plug in. This neat little unit comes complete with a grow light. You simply choose which grow kit you want, pop the little pre-seeded containers in, add water and nutrient tablets and you are ready to grow.

Some herbs are being bred to be container herbs. Renee’s Garden offers windowsill basil as well as other flowers, vegetables and herbs that will thrive in a container. Simply hang a window box outside any window or on the edge of a balcony and you will be set to harvest fresh herbs.

Some herbs will grow quite happily on the inside of a window sill as well. Adequate light, water and proper temperature is all you need. Keep inside plants out of the direct path of heat or air conditioner vents. Sudden drafts, rather warm or cold, can be deadly to indoor plants.
